About Michael
Michael Louis Hedley was born in August 1945, a few days after V-J Day. He was brought up within sight of the Tyne Bridge and loved his North Eastern roots an heritage. He attended St Mary’s Primary School in Oystershell Lane, within the smell of the famous Newcastle Brown Ale brewery, before moving to a Dominican preparatory school in South Wales, then on to Ushaw College to train for the priesthood. A change of heart brought him to teaching and this career took him to Hong Kong and Germany before becoming a head teacher in Cleveland. With his wife Hilda, Michael went on to run a retreat centre in County Durham for 20 years and to practise as a professional homeopath.
Author
of many short stories, articles and poems, Michael completed a novel based on
the life of John Wycliffe shortly before his death in 2020.
Married
with five children, Michael was always a passionate follower of Newcastle
United, an avid jazz fan and Francophile.
