The More Clearly one sees this world.

I've just finished reading A Sport and a Pastime by James Salter which he wrote in the Sixties and  a sentence of his has been running through my mind since.

'The more clearly one sees the world, the more one is obliged to pretend it does not exist.' (page 154)
